Timeless vs. Trendy: Why We Design for the Long Game
A timeless home isn’t boring, predictable, or stuck in the past. It’s layered, refined, and deeply personal. It reflects your lifestyle, honors great architecture, and feels just as beautiful ten years from now as it does today.
Here’s how we approach timeless design—and the elements we return to again and again.
Natural Materials Always Win
We never get tired of natural stone—and marble, in particular, is forever. Whether it’s used in a kitchen, a primary bath, or a statement fireplace surround, marble brings an elegance that just doesn’t age. Pair it with medium-toned wood for warmth and depth. Medium wood tones are our go-to because they ground a space without feeling trendy like ultra-light or espresso finishes can.
Think of them as the denim of your home—versatile, classic, and always in style.
Architectural Details Make the Space
Design isn’t just about furnishings. The bones of your home matter. Millwork, trim, and ceiling details like beams or coffered patterns add architectural character that instantly makes a room feel complete. They draw your eye up, give a room presence, and elevate everything that follows.
Finishes That Age Gracefully
When we’re selecting plumbing or hardware finishes, polished nickel and unlacquered brass are always at the top of our list. They’re tried-and-true classics that play beautifully with other metals and never feel dated.
Polished nickel, especially, is a personal favorite—it has just the right amount of warmth and shine. It's a finish you’ll still love long after the trend cycles have moved on.
Function Is Always in Style
Timeless design has to work for real life. That means smart storage, purposeful layouts, and rooms that support your day-to-day rhythms.
We’re always thinking about how your home actually lives, not just how it photographs.
Wallpaper That Doesn’t Chase Trends
Wallpaper is part of our signature at LPD. Bold, elegant, or quietly textured—we always find a place for it. Grasscloth and muted florals are forever favorites, especially in powder baths, primary suites, and dining rooms.
Personal Pieces Tell Your Story
At the end of the day, timeless design isn’t just about materials and finishes—it’s about meaning. We love incorporating pieces with a personal story: a light fixture from a past home, a vintage painting found on your travels, a cabinet built to house a family heirloom.
These touches make your home feel grounded and one-of-a-kind—no matter what’s trending.
The Flooring We’ll Always Come Back To
While LVP can be practical, it simply doesn’t have the warmth or presence of real wood. Solid or engineered hardwood is always our recommendation.
Our favorite? A medium oak with a matte finish. It’s the perfect backdrop—quiet, clean, and endlessly versatile.
A Final Thought
Designing a timeless home means designing with intention. It’s about choosing what you love, focusing on quality, and not letting fads dictate your forever spaces.
At LPD, we don’t design for now. We design for how you want to live, for the long term, and for the kind of home you’ll still love a decade from today.
Thanks for joining us in our love of all things lasting.
With Love-
Liz
